From Opus business energy tariffs, to how to switch suppliers quickly and easily – all of your questions will be answered below!

Who is Opus Energy?

Opus Energy is an energy supplier that was founded in 2002, and it provides completely renewable electricity exclusively to businesses and corporate clients.
They’re part of the Drax group, and have a focus on sustainability and reducing carbon emissions – so they’re a good fit for eco-conscious companies.
They currently supply energy to over 368,000 UK businesses, and are one of the biggest energy companies in the country.
Opus Business Energy
Opus Energy aims to make purchasing renewable electricity more accessible to businesses in the United Kingdom. For this reason, they offer 2 main options to clients:

Opus Energy Business Electricity Rates and Tariffs
Opus Energy offers fixed and variable-rate tariffs, and also allows you to select gas only, electricity only, or mixed contract types – making it a flexible service for corporate customers.

Here’s an outline of the Opus Energy contract terms you can expect for different tariffs:
Fixed-Rate Contract
- Rates will remain the same during the entire contract.
- You can choose any business energy contract length between 1-3 years.
- Ability to personalise company payment terms, so that you have predictable energy bills.
- Each company customer will have a dedicated account manager.
Variable-Rate Contract
- Rates will fluctuate during the contract, in line with market prices.
- You can choose any business energy contract length between 1-3 years.
- Can be harder to predict monthly energy bills.
- Each company customer will have a dedicated account manager.
‘Deemed’ or ‘Out of Contract’ Rates
As with any power company, if you forget to renew your energy usage contract, you may incur ‘Deemed Rates’.
Here are the standard Deemed Rates that Opus Energy charge for Out of Contract energy usage:
- Half-hourly electricity prices start at 22 p/kwh with an additional standing charge of 600 p/day
- Gas prices start at 6.99 p/kwh with an additional standing charge of 150 p/day.
These prices are often less affordable than the ones you’ll pay as part of a contract, so it’s best to renew or switch as soon as you notice you’re paying Deemed Rates.
Additional Business Contract Information
Here are a few more useful details to know about opening a contract with Opus Energy:

- Opus Energy will include Smart Meter installation in your contract costs – but they also work with any working Smart Meter you already have installed.
- The provider allows all electricity supply measurements, such as half-hourly.
- Even if you opt for fixed business electricity rates, your agreement will still allow prices to ‘pass through’ in exceptional circumstances – but this is rare.
- Your contract will lapse in the event of a tenant change – such as a switch of business premises.
- Opus Energy will notify every customer 120 days before their energy deal expires or must be renewed.
